In practice, the preparation and mindset needed for both overlap heavily, so practising one builds genuine skill for the other.
How to prepare
Practise with genuine timed abstract reasoning question sets, focusing specifically on matrix-style (grid-based) questions where you identify a missing figure based on rules operating across rows and columns simultaneously. Train yourself to check systematically for multiple rules at once (shape, rotation, shading, and position, for example), since most errors come from correctly spotting one rule but missing a second one operating in parallel.
